Sabaton is a Swedish heavy metal band that produces historical music, ranging from Swedish to Scottish history. In December of 2024, the band will be celebrating their 25th anniversary under the name Sabaton.
The band began under the name Aeon for a short period of time; 1999-2000. However, in 2000 their music shifted from death metal to history based heavy metal, and they changed their name to Sabaton. The name is in reference to a historical Swedish term for a knight’s boot, according to the Sabaton website.
While many members have come and gone over the years, there are only two original members of Sabaton still in the band. Pär Sundström, lead vocalist/keyboard, and Joakim Brodén, bass/backing vocals.
Since 2019, they have released at least two albums per year, however, they have yet to release an album in 2024. This leads to the belief that they are planning a much larger album in celebration of their 25th anniversary. According to the online forum, FaceCulture, when interviewing the band last November, it appears they entered their brainstorming phase near the beginning of this year.
Their anniversary is on December 12th, 2024 and we will have to wait and see if they will do anything special for this particular milestone.
