Sunday, March 16, streets crowded with people tailgating, music blasting from cars, fans united as one single mass; this was the experience I’ve been waiting for since I bought the tickets back in September. Stepping into the Toyota Center, I was practically running in there. As I did, the crowds of people practically overwhelmed me. A complete blend of all different generations. Old, middle-aged, young adults, everyone was united for one thing, Deftones.
We found our seats quickly thanks to the staff members directing us. Deftones was touring with a smaller band, Mars Volta. Which, as we sat down, we paid no attention to. Finally, after what felt like ages, Mars Volta got off and the mental countdown for Deftones commenced.
The suspense was like an itch I couldn’t scratch. And then, it happened. The drums started banging and the whole stadium lit up with cheer. I stood up instantly, joining into the cheer. Then, he came out, the man of the hour, Chino Moreno (the lead singer).
The crowd went nuts as he started singing. The visuals had me in a lucid trance, pinpointing each light with my eyes. Each time Chino sang, the crowd went even wilder. Mosh pits and constant crowd surfing plagued the floor- which was further hyped up with the energy that he brought throughout the night. A choir of screaming, jumping, and singing echoed the stadium throughout the night. A complete 11/10 experience. If you can go, go. You won’t want to miss the absolute performance they put on for their fans.
