Pandemic Playtime with Animal Crossing
All over social media, people are talking about the new Animal Crossing game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. During this pandemic, it has been a way for people to communicate with their friends, build their own world, and just have fun!
Animal Crossing was first released by Nintendo on April 14th, 2001 in Japan and was realized in North America on September 16th, 2002. It has grown to be one of the most successful video game franchises worldwide. It has five versions: Animal Crossing (2001), Animal Crossing: Wild World (2005), Animal Crossing: City Folk (2008), Animal Crossing: New Leaf (2012), and Animal Crossing: New Horizons (2020).
Animal Crossing: New Horizons was announced by Nintendo in September 2018. It was released on March 20, 2020, for the Nintendo Switch. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the game sold out fast, along with Nintendo Switches.
The game starts off with the player in an airport being told that they are about to go fly to an island. It lets you custom design your avatar and choose a name. Then, you are flown to an island, you get to choose one out of the four choices given. Once you land on the island, you are introduced to Tom Nook, the manager of your island, Timmy and Tommy, twin raccoons who you can sell things too and give you advice, and also, random villagers who are also starting a life on your island.
Your life on the island is really up to you. Some of the game is controlled but most of it is up to you. You can travel to other islands whenever you want, build any DIY crafts of your choosing, and more!
Initially, this game was bought for my little sister, but I kept hearing all my friends talk about this game and how much they loved it. I convinced my sister that we needed to play this game together, but slowly it became my new obsession. There is never a dull moment in this game, you are given so much to do from other characters and there is so much to shop and build! If you are bored at your house, I’d definitely recommend this game, if you can find it or a switch!
