Alum to play at Conroe’s Corner Pub
TWHS 2014 alum and Texas A&M graduate Dylan King will be playing live, this Friday at the Corner Pub in Conroe at 9 p.m. He’s a singer/songwriter solo guitar act, who got his first guitar when he was 12, inspired by his older brother’s friend.
“He played ‘While my guitar gently weeps’ and that was it for me,” King said.
King’s favorite artists are Ryan Bingham, Whiskey Myers and Dalton Domino, and his music reflects those influences, but he’s also influenced by what he’s listening to.
“I have songs that sound very honky tonk as well as songs that are more rock or folk-driven,” King said.
He loves performing live, and especially loves the connection he can make with an audience.
“I played a song that I had written about my grandfather passing away, and a girl walked up to me after, gave me a hug, and said ‘thank you’,” King said. “Her grandpa had died a couple of weeks before that and she connected with that song. That’s what I love about performing music for people.”
Playing live for audiences is not without surprises.
“One time I was playing ‘Wish you were here’ and a lady walked up and dropped a $100 bill in my tip jar.” King said. “That’s definitely the biggest tip I’ve ever made. On the other hand, I had a guy walk up ready to tip and request a song, and when I didn’t know the song, he got mad at me, stuck the money back in his wallet and stormed off.”
King has played at Blue Epiphany Vineyards in Conroe, Dosey Doe BBQ, The Golden Retriever Pub, private parties and charity events, and other venues in College Station. Follow him at @dylankingmusic on Twitter, and Dylan King Music on Facebook.
