TWHS family opens “Mexican Mom”
This weekend my mom and I visited the new traditional Mexican kitchen, “Mexican Mom”, located in Spring, Texas. The menu ranges widely as it changes every week. Alongside the varying menu, there are also a number of dishes that are consistent.
Walking in, I was more than pleased by the interior design. There were two couches along one wall and directly above were very pretty woven baskets used as light fixtures.
We arrived at the front to place our orders. The woman taking our order was extremely welcoming and helped explain the dynamic and background of the restaurant. We couldn’t decide what we wanted to drink so she let us sample the horchata ($3.00). I thought that it wasn’t sweet enough, which is something I look forward to when I drink horchata. My mom on the other hand doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth so she liked it a lot and got one of those. I went with a Minute Maid Hibiscus Agua Fresca ($1.99). It was tasteful but because this is a traditional Mexican kitchen, I was expecting something more personal and customary like homemade agua fresca.
I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas Verdes ($14.50). As we waited for our food to come, we played with a wooden tic tac toe set that was provided by the restaurant. The food was brought to our table within a few short minutes. My plate was full to the brim. The one thing I would change was the amount of salsa verde on the plate. It was slightly overbearing but nothing significant. I still thought the dish was tasteful and I finished my leftovers just a few hours after I got home.
My mom ordered the Pollo Con Limon. When her plate came it was very nicely presented and she was very eager to dig in. “The food was fresh and dressed the plate colorfully.”
Before we left we made sure to try the famous Chocolate Tres Leches Cake ($7.50).
While we were in the restaurant we saw at least three families come in just for that, so I had high expectations. Typically I am not a fan of chocolate cake BUT my all time favorite cake happens to be tres leches, so I decided to try it out and give it the benefit of the doubt. To my surprise, it was full of flavor and I ate the whole thing in one sitting.
I think it’s safe to say everyone should give “Mexican Mom” a try. I definitely have to go back to try more of their many options.
Mexican Mom is located at 1027 Sawdust Rd suite 375, Spring, TX 77380. They are closed on Sundays, and serve just lunch (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.) Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday through Saturday they are open for dinner too, 5-8 p.m.
