After Mrs. Gartner announced her retirement last year, the need for a new Student Council sponsor became apparent within The Woodlands High School, and Mrs. Bartolazzi (Mrs. Bart for short) graciously stepped forward to fulfill the role.
Mrs. Bart attended Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas for her undergraduate education. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a Social Studies Composite Certification. She immediately started teaching post-college and now has almost 30 years under her belt. She began her career teaching junior high Texas History but eventually ascended to leading both AP and Honors Economics courses. Mrs. Bart stated “I don’t know that I’m a great leader, but I’ve always been a take-charge type of person and I’m super competitive. So I view most things in life as a game and I always want to win!”
Mrs. Bart mentioned that her favorite part about Student Council has been watching the “students getting out and doing stuff” acknowledging that STUCO has a big impact on what happens at the school. Despite the excitement surrounding the new role, Mrs. Bart acknowledged that being STUCO sponsor comes with “a lot of paperwork regarding financials” that is new to her.
“Being able to work with students, and see the students grow” is Mrs. Bart’s cited motivation for taking her new position. She explained how she wanted more than “one year with [the Seniors]” than teaching senior Economics allowed.
It was clear throughout conversation with her that she looks forward to being able to see the same faces year after year, allowing her to create better relationships with students overall. We wish the best of luck to Mrs. Bart in her new role.
