This month the Highlander’s Conroe Star Athletes participated, along with other schools, at the Conroe Stars event.
Going on for over 20 years, Conroe Stars is a district wide organization that has students from various schools in different life skills programs compete in a variety of athletic challenges.
At the event, the athletes played bocce ball; in which athletes are separated into pairs. And for the competition itself, they had prepared for the event over the course of five weeks. However, that doesn’t mean this was easy work. They worked tirelessly with their coach every Friday, alongside Ms. Lee, one of TWHS’s life skills teachers.
Students and educators alike are ecstatic for this event. They look forward to the social environment and showcasing their different skills. Student athlete Launa Harper’s favorite event is bowling, with her favorite part of Conroe Stars being able to hang out with her friends.
The most recent competition took place on Saturday the 28th. Athletes compete in different heats and groups based on pre-qualifying scores. Partners Laura and Sabrina, and Hassan and Jacob placed first. John and his partner from Oak Ridge also placed first. Jerzi and her partner from Oak Ridge High School placed third. Olu and Caysen came in forth place. The next event is scheduled for November and will feature bowling and powerlifting.
Overall, the Conroe Star athletes played an extraordinary game and we are ecstatic to see what else they accomplish in the future!
