In 2005, Conroe ISD found itself as one of over forty districts around the nation in the center of a legal battle with the University of Wisconsin over the logo or a shared “W.” Due to the success of the Woodlands High School sports during those years, TWHS had been receiving more media attention than ever. The media attention caught the notice of UWIS, who allegedly felt the ‘Woodlands Mark’ logo used by TWHS was very similar to the UWIS ‘Motion W,’ as both logos had the ‘W’ standing straight, according to a Sept. 2007 article in The Cron.
The talks persisted from then until 2007, when UWIS finally moved to file a lawsuit if TWHS and CISD did not phase out the old logo. Following this, CISD relented and agreed to start phasing out the logo, though they made it clear that it was not because they felt they were in the wrong, but, rather, that they considered it to be a waste of taxpayer money to enter a legal battle.
Since then, the standing highlander and the renewed, and italicized, ‘W’ logo have taken the place of the old ‘Woodlands Mark’. the old ‘W’ has fallen into the depths of history.
