On Saturday, November 9, at 6 p.m., TWHS Robotics Program will be hosting a family-friendly event to raise money to support upcoming activities and events that benefit the class and program. “In order to reduce student fees, we rely heavily on sponsorships and fundraisers,” explains Ms. Hamel, the robotics teacher.
The event will have many different fun science demonstrations, including robots and explosions. There will also be a silent auction, concessions, and an amazing performance by comedian Neal Rosen.
Last year, the Robotics program qualified for the World Championships after an impressive year of competition. “In the spring, we’ll be traveling to competitions,” says Ms. Hamel, “we get six to seven weeks to build the robot, and we start traveling every other week.” They have won multiple awards, at varying competitions throughout Texas, with a final award last year, the Imagery Award (Archimedes Division) during the World Championships.
Along with doing competitions, they also participate in many outreach programs for the community. They founded the youth program, Pastabots Juniors, for TWHS staff’s elementary school students. They also work with the life skills program at the high school and have published youth books that can be found around the community.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. at The Woodlands High School. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time here and you can also purchase tickets at the door. Food tickets are also available ahead of time.
