The TWHS German language program recently received the honor of being named an “International German School,” the only of its kind in Texas, and one of fifteen nationwide, through Germany's PASCH Initiative.
PASCH is an organization by the German foreign ministry, which connects over 2,000 high schools, in 120 countries, with the strongest German programs. These programs, with the help of the German government, aid each other to expand their reach further and with more authentic teaching to improve the programs.
“When recognized as a ‘PASCH School,’ a German program becomes connected to thousands of schools worldwide and is given funding to pursue projects as well as an improved curriculum and extracurricular activities.” explains Herr Steven Wynne, a German teacher at TWHS. He adds that, “an abundance of class materials [are provided] to improve the proficiency of our students.”
This is a great honor for the school. According to Herr Wynne, “we are now officially recognized by the German government as the top (#1) high school German program in Texas, and top 10 in the United States.” With this prestige, the high school gains access to funds from the German government to help support any future projects and a more authentic curriculum to improve our lessons. Our school is now a part of “a network of over 2000 schools worldwide with whom we can create pen-pal relationships and share materials for the betterment of our TWHS German program,” continues Herr Wynne.
This program will aid students as they will have access to German learning peers around the world, as well as Germany will aid the program’s funding. They will also fund trips, such as a German football (soccer) camp in October 2025, as well as a trip to our new “Sister City” of Leipzig the following year.
