On Saturday, Jan 18, 2025 The Woodlands High School Varsity cheer team competed at a UIL state competition in Fort Worth, Texas. Placing 9th out of 75 in the Texas 6A- D1 (the highest level of competition in the 6A region schools), The Woodlands High School team was the only school in Conroe ISD to place in the top 20 of their division.
Coach Frank, the head coach for the team, says that her favorite part of the competition was their performance, and that “their last performance was their best, even though they didn’t get the placement we wanted.”
Jillian Sims, a senior cheer captain, said that it was “really exciting to be the only school in the district to make it to finals.” While being a little disappointed she said that it was exciting to perform and she knows that they “did their best.”
In order to prepare for the most important competition of the year, the team began their choreography in August and practiced up until the competition in January, totaling to nearly five months of preparation. Sims stated that the practices can be long, but there is a lot of bonding in these months. “I’m going miss [the] road trips with cheer and getting to spend the trips bonding with the team.”
As 18 seniors prepare to graduate this year, Coach Frank looks forward to seeing the new varsity team of upcoming juniors and seniors next 2025-2026 school year.
“It’s sad to see my seniors go, as they make up most of the team, but I’m excited to see the new bunch next year.” said Coach Frank.
