On Saturday, March 15, 2025, The Wildwood Running Program will be coming to TWHS track to host an event for females of all ages. The event, Wildwood Miles, aims to empower female athletes by bringing girls and women together for a night of racing, no matter what their level.
Wildwood Running is an organization dedicated to guiding, empowering, connecting, and educating young female runners and their coaches. Founded by Robyn McGillis and Marie Markham from Portland, OR, they host events across the country.
According to TWHS Cross Country Coach, Lauren Watts, “Having Wildwood Running come to TWHS is a unique opportunity to bring their mission directly to our community, fostering an inspiring and supportive environment for female athletes.”
The Wildwood Miles event is a 1600m run. This distance is a little less than a mile. There are two race divisions: Open Section and a Competitive Section. The Open Section is for any interested runners, regardless of speed or experience. The open section will be one heat. This will be for participants that would like to run in groups, push a stroller, or do not have a specific time goal in mind. This heat is all about fun, empowerment, and community-building.
The Competitive Section is available for runners with a specific goal time. Multiple heats will be created based on seed times, running from slowest to fastest. Entries will be taken and multiple heats will be created based on seed times listed. Every athlete MUST have seed time. Heats will run from slowest to fastest. For the competitive group, it is important that the entry time that is put down is representative to what you believe you can run on March 15th.Entries are open to women and girls of all ages. Collegiate athletes may not represent their institutions per NCAA rules.
Registration can be completed at athletic.net. Online registration closes Wednesday, March 12, at 8 p.m. The cost to enter is $10. Walk up registration is available on-site 5:00-5:45 p.m. ($15). Those participants will be placed into the “open section” at the beginning of the evening unless space is available in a desired timed section. Section assignments for pre-registered participants will be determined and posted by Thursday, March 13 at noon and e-mailed to all participants.
Watts adds that “this event is about more than just racing—it’s about bringing girls and women together under the lights for an unforgettable night of support, empowerment, and connection.” Besides the run, the evening will be about cheering, motivating, and lifting each other up to create a strong and inspiring community.
