TWHS’s Technical Drafting team is going to the state-level competition for SkillsUSA, an organization that brings together high schoolers and professionals in various industries for related competitions. It’s sponsored by Mrs. Amedee, the Engineering teacher, and will take place in Corpus Christi, TX on Wednesday, April 2 through Saturday, April 5.
Though Amedee’s team does individual drafting/engineering, SkillsUSA covers a wide variety of skills. Last year, Amedee coached two students to nationals. TWHS has AV (audio/video), Architectural Drafting, and Technical Drafting teams.
“For technical drafting, they go and do a four-hour competition where they’re given drawings of various parts that they have to model up on the computer using 3D software,” Amedee said.
This competition is available for advanced Engineering students; but if you are interested in the field, Engineering I is a good place to start.
