The Woodlands High School recognized 14 National Merit Scholar finalists from our school recently. National Merit Scholars are first selected to be semi-finalists based on the PSAT they take their junior year.
According to Head Counselor, Mrs. Tabor, “There is a certain score that students must get to qualify.” She continues to explain the process, “after qualifying, the student is notified of it and then has to apply with a recommendation letter from their counselor, a document of all the classes they’ve taken, and they write their own application essay.”
Being a National Merit Finalist has various benefits to students. While it looks good on a resume, it is also something colleges look at when deciding merit-based scholarships. TWHS was lucky enough to have all 14 of our semi-finalists become finalists.
Of the 16,000 semifinalists, there were 15,000 finalists and approximately 6000 scholarship winners. “It’s because of your progress, your school, your academic status and you know, all the great things that you’ve done throughout your high school career. It’s a pretty great thing to be a national merit finalist” Mrs. Tabor said.
The students, from our school, that received this honor are: Breyton D. Badger, Alexander M. Bills, Jeffery N. Dou, Aubrey Elizabeth Harris, Benjamin S. Heffernan, Jason D. Luddeke, Andres X. Lynch, Colton T. Moore, Brian C. Nwugbana, Jaron L. Oldenburg, Daniel Christopher Robbins, Aarush R. Shenoy, Yuchen Tian and Nicholas H. Tyner.
