Q: What qualities do you think make a good Student Body President?
A: I would say that I’m friends with everyone, and I know all sorts of different people. I’m really organized as well. Aside from the pride of it all, I keep things in order and I love school spirit. I love what I do. It’s really exciting.
Q: What qualities made you feel like you’d stand out as a candidate?
A: I think it was how outgoing I am, and that I am a part of so many different groups outside of Student Council. This is what helps me be a good representation of the school. I feel like I was chosen because I know everyone and I want to be able to represent everyone as a whole.
Q: How do you plan to make sure every student’s voice is heard?
A: I honestly just ask. Since I am in a bunch of different friend groups, I like to ask people how they feel about things. I really want to bring unity in our body, and by doing that I think that I’ll be able to get everyone’s individual opinion.
Q: Do you have a proud moment or accomplishment from your time as Student Council president?
A: Probably when I first spoke at the Teacher Pep Rally, because that was the first time I ever faced a crowd of people and said something. I was really proud of myself because I had never really done that before, and it was such an accomplishing moment.
Q: How do you want to get more students involved in activities for the Student Council?
A: I think participating in the things that we have planned, like coming to Senior Sunrise, signing the banners, and also attending other events we have planned for the future.
Q: What are some of the ways that the Student Council helps improve the school spirit?
A: I think we try to get everyone involved, even if they’re not in Council. We plan everything, offering people opportunities to attend sports events or be part of activities in a bigger-picture way.
Q: What’s your favorite memory of being part of the Student Council?
A: Probably the custodial dinner we held for the custodians two years ago. Talking with them was such a meaningful experience because it’s not something students usually do. They come in every day, clean up after us, and most people don’t stop to think about their lives outside of school. Spending that time with them reminded me how kind and genuine they are. It was such a touching moment of gratitude.
Q: If you could organize any event, what would you want to do?
A: Probably something that gives back to the teachers. I’d like to do something similar to what we did for the custodians, showing appreciation for how much they serve us with their knowledge. I’d want to give back with something like food or by organizing an event, maybe even a teacher pep rally.
Q: Who inspires you as a leader or a role model?
A: Probably Coach Harbin. She’s so awesome and one of the most organized and kindest people you’ll ever meet. Beyond her organization, she knows how to get things done while still making everyone feel good. No one ever feels overwhelmed around her, and that’s exactly what you need in a leader. I honestly don’t know how she does it all. She has a whole family and still comes here and gives us her all.
Q: What advice would you give to students who want to run for the Student Council in the future?
A: I would just say, know your student body. It’s not necessarily the work that comes with it, but people aren’t going to want to vote for someone they don’t know. Representing yourself as someone who enjoys talking to people is the best thing you can do.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
A: Anyone can represent the school. You don’t have to be the president of something, anyone can be important. Just being nice and kind matters.
