First it was a microwave. Then it was two iPads. Teachers and administrators at The Woodlands High School noticed many missing items when they returned from the summer break.
The Woodlands High School was under construction during the summer and it was open for the workers to come in to do the necessary remodeling. In addition, all staff were told that they should not be in the building, and most of the summer activity was directed to the freshman campus. This lack of security and traffic gave access to the building during the daytime.
The school saved money throughout the 2024-25 school year to purchase school supplies for the upcoming year. At the conclusion of summer, administrators were getting ready to organize the new supplies. As they opened the boxes of supplies, they were empty. Hundreds of pens, markers, papers and cups were gone, according to Associate Principal, Jaime Cassidy.
As the administration continued to unbox supplies they realized it was way more than just smaller school supplies. There were four missing radio walkie-talkies and a ladder. Mrs. Kiesha Weathers, the GLO secretary, was one of the staff members that ordered these items for the school. She expressed that there was “access to our personal items” and that this is a disappointing situation to come back to.
Teachers also had items go missing from locked cabinets.
“I had cabinets in my classroom so I stored my valuables in there and locked it with an e-bolt. As I walked back into my classroom for the new school year, the cabinet doors were open and the lock was gone,” said Mr. Thomas, a teacher in the science department.
Mr. Thomas also had a Star Wars keyboard mat that was stolen, costing around $20. There were also eight to ten bobble head figures taken off his desk valued at $23 a piece. He then noticed his $20 white oscillating fan was not there and his tools were gone. The tool box was left in a cabinet- but the tools inside were gone.
Mr. Thomas is hoping for an investigation into the thefts. As of now, there is no resolution to this situation, but the school will still be under construction for another year.
