The South regional library has been relocated to 2250 Buckthorne Pl, The Woodlands, TX 77380 by The Woodlands Farmers’ Market and renamed after retired Congressman Kevin Brady. The move and location decisions were made in a land-swap deal with Howard Hughes Holdings Inc.
The new library has a stunning entrance, carrying a more modern look to the building compared to the previous infrastructure. Parts of this library that have been improved to include a children’s section with colorful outdoorsy decor, a young adult area that has its own room for a quieter environment, and several study rooms/pods and seats. The building also contains additions like conference rooms, a theater-styled classroom, a podcast room, and meeting rooms.
While being a place for reading, the library is always holding events for the public with a huge variety of activities like story times for kids, a teen book club, computer classes, a chess club for all ages, and more, providing a good place for the community.
In 1976, South Branch Regional Library opened on Many Pines road and started to expand and more libraries were built after. In the 1980s, one of the libraries caught fire and caused damage to the building’s interior and books. Another fire followed in 1992 at The South regional library the cause was concluded to be arson, forcing the library to relocate temporarily to The Woodlands at the Grogan’s Mill Shopping Center. In 1994, the library was located on Lake Robbins Dr. and stayed there for 31 years, becoming popular for how close it was to Market Street and The Woodlands Waterway. Recently the library was moved to its current location and renamed the Kevin Brady Library.
The deal between the two locations was approved in 2023 and has been now completed in the summer of 2025. Montgomery County now has ownership of the library, which is 7.8 acres of land with a total value of over $30 million. Howard Hughes Holding Inc. owns 5.72 acres with no plans announced at the moment for the future.
Kevin Brady was the first person from Montgomery County to become a congressman. Brady retired in 2023 after serving for 26 years, he was chosen to be the name of the library by Montgomery County in order to recognize the years he has dedicated to serving as a congressman.
The library is open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; information about activities found at https://www.countylibrary.org/calendar.php.
