Anticipation for tonight’s War of the Woods game fills The Woodlands High School halls as students wander out of the pep rally doors. The pep rally took place at The Woodlands High School, as The Woodlands football team prepares to take on their biggest rival tonight, College Park.
According to Woodlands Online, for the past four years the Highlanders have owned the bragging rights in this intense rivalry, and of course the highlanders aim to continue this streak.
The War of the Woods rivalry began before College Park was even built, when both Knox and Branch Crossing Junior High were the two junior highs that fed into The Woodlands High School. The feud received its name because both schools went into “The Woods” according to Head Football Coach Jim Raap. After College Park opened the rivalry still remained, but now between the two high schools of The Woodlands.
College Park enters tonights game undefeated, a force to be reckoned with after dominating their opponents; including a statement win last week over Willis, a team that has defeated The Woodlands two years in a row. The Cavaliers’ offense has been operating at full capacity, and has proven to be nearly impenetrable.
On the other hand, the Highlanders are hungry for redemption. After their tough loss to Willis, the team has worked tirelessly to sharpen their skills, revamp their game plan, and reclaim the competitive edge that has made them such a dominant force in the district for years. With home-field advantage on their side, there’s no shortage of determination in the Highlander locker room.
For fans, tonight’s game will be a chance to see if The Woodlands can bounce back from their early-season setback and assert their dominance, or if College Park will continue their undefeated streak and dethrone the defending champs.
Both teams are bringing intensity and pride to the field, but for the Highlanders, this game is more than just another Friday night matchup, it’s a chance to keep their tradition of victory alive. It’s time to reclaim our status as district leaders, and send a clear message to College Park: the four-year streak is not over yet.
The Woodlands community has always rallied behind its football team, and this rivalry game will be no different. Fans are encouraged to pack the stands, bring the energy, and support the team by wearing camo as they face off in what is sure to be an unforgettable night.
Will the Highlanders prove that their past dominance is no fluke? Or will the Cavaliers continue their undefeated run and capture the spotlight for themselves? The game kicks off at 7:00 PM tonight, be there to witness the action and experience the thrill of this fierce rivalry.
Go Highlanders!
