The Show Goes On... on Zoom

“Are you bored of being stuck inside your house? Need something fun to do indoors during quarantine? We have prepared FREE classes by current students, TWHS Theater alumni and industry professionals, that everyone (even parents!) are welcome to participate in online!,” proclaims the TWHS theatre website.

Clubs school-wide have had their fair share of cancellations due to the Coronavirus outbreak. One that has been hit hard was Theatre. With 3 shows yet to perform, countless troupe outings, and the end of year banquet all being canceled, the department took a huge blow. But in a time of modern technology, the people of the Woodlands High School Theatre Department managed to keep spirits high in an interesting way.

On the Theatre Department’s website, twhstheater.com, a tab appears near the top of the page entitled “What to do during Quarantine”. Upon clicking the tab, you can see a list of upcoming Zoom conferences and Facebook Live videos where alumni, professionals, and current students teach a crash course or give lessons on things that they’ve learned.

Abi Colburn, a sophomore in Theatre led a tap-dancing class last Thursday, March 26.

“I wanted to spread my love of tap to everyone stuck inside. I learned that it is much easier to teach a class when you can interact with the people you are teaching and how important social interaction is to us,” Colburn said.

The department has also gained recognition from the Texas Thespians Society on Instagram where they highlighted five things related to theatre that you can do at home.
