This year’s premier league season has officially kicked off. A lot of teams are anticipating to get on to a good start this season and make a push for the title later in the year. Some teams had their way last year and achieved top 4, and some teams hit rock bottom (ahem Chelsea). A few new and old teams have been promoted to the premier league, such as Burnley, Sheffield United, and Luton Town. There were also a few old teams relegated back to the English Football League, such as Leicester City, Leeds United, and Southampton. This season is expected to be one of the most exciting seasons in a very long time, as there are so many talented players in the league ready to compete.

A team that made a huge comeback last year was Manchester City, as they were atop the league standings for only 7 percent of the season and managed to miraculously win the title. As Arsenal only managed to win 4 out of their last 10 games of the season, Manchester City took over with 8 wins in their last 10 games. Arsenal were on top of the league for 93 percent of the season and essentially handed the trophy to Manchester City. It was heartbreaking for Arsenal as they were so close to winning it all but “bottled” it at the last moment.

Three New Teams

Three new and old teams have made their way back to the premier league, like Burnley, who had a very dominant path back to the premier league, as they won six of their last 10 EFL league matches and won against Middlesbrough 2-1 to clinch first place in the championship. Burnley got relegated from the premier league in May of 2022, with a 2-1 loss to Newcastle at home.

A team who had last been in the Premier League in 2021, Sheffield United, are making a return this season after having not been in the premier league for two straight seasons. Their path back to the Premier League had a lot of twists and turns, and required a lot of effort to climb back. In their last 10 games of the English Football League season of 2022-2023, they managed to win 7 of them and defeated West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at home to secure second place in the English Football League Championship, behind Burnley, and secure a promotion to the Premier League.

A newcomer to the Premier League, Luton Town, had a very surprising season on their way back to the Premier League. They finished 3rd in the English Football League Championship and qualified for the league playoffs, where they faced Sunderland. They were able to defeat Sunderland 3-2 on aggregate in the play-off semi-finals and advanced to play Coventry City in the final. They drew with Coventry City 1-1 in regular time, and then went on to face them in penalties and prevailed 5-6 to earn promotion to the Premier League. It was one of the biggest achievements in franchise history and it showed that they had earned a chance to play football with some of the biggest names in sports history.

Bowey’s Top Four teams

Here are my bold predictions for the top four teams in the premier league. Coming in at number four I have Manchester United earning 75 points with 22 wins, 9 draws, and 7 losses. After a top 3 finish last season accumulating 75 points with 23 wins, 6 draws, and 9 losses I see this team making a slight decline due to a select few games that they should’ve put away but couldn’t hold on, but will stay hot in the win column and limit the few losses they obtain over the season.

Next up at number three I have Newcastle earning 84 points with 25 wins, 9 draws, and 4 losses. Now I know that it sounds like a lot of points for a third place team, but if you think about it, if Newcastle would’ve won half of their games they drew in their fourth place finish last year, they would have exactly 84 points, matching my prediction for their record this year.

Following that, at number two we have the defending champions Manchester city earning 87 points with 27 wins, 6 draws, and 5 losses. They will come up just short at the end of the season, with their last game being a loss and handing the trophy over on the last matchday.

Finally, crowning the 2023-2024 Premier League champion with their first place finish, Arsenal will win their first Premier league title since the 2003-2004 miraculous season and will finish with 90 points at 28 wins, 6 draws, and 4 losses. They will take the championship on the last matchday with a win and a Manchester City last minute loss. Arsenal will finally get the job done and won’t “bottle” the league like the year before.

In conclusion, this Premier League season will be jam-packed with action and will have high expectations for popularity. It’s a League that deserves to get some serious recognition and support from people all around the world. Every team deserves the best of luck, and whichever team comes out on top this season will have a piece in soccer history forever.
