Deadpool & Wolverine is the electrifying latest addition to the Deadpool saga. The two previous films follow the story of former Special Forces Operative Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds). Wade’s life does a complete 360 after an evil scientist disfigures him, transforming the man into Deadpool. Now, see the way I didn’t spoil the first two movies. Very mindful, very demure.
This third film was a smashing success, taking the MCU by storm. It premiered on July 26, 2024, and made $600 million in box office performance. Jam-packed with amazing cameos, its legendary cast includes Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, and more. Taking place after the Logan movie, Deadpool does everything necessary to honor Logan’s legacy while bringing Wolverine back… including swinging around his skeleton while dancing to NSYNC. This action-packed movie takes place during the close extinction of Deadpool’s timeline. He is recruited by a member of the TVA (Time Variance Authority), Deadpool quickly finds out that the man is, actually, the bad guy trying to destroy his timeline. Deadpool travels the multiverse trying to find the perfect Wolverine to help him, but he ends up with the worst one; now, the two must race against the clock to save the timeline and make enough offensive jokes to give your mother a heart attack.
While this may not be a movie for the whole family, it’s a perfect fit for those who appreciate colorful cursing and offensive/suggestive actions. With its R rating, teenagers 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult to watch; but if your parents are cool with it, then it’s a fun watch for everyone. I personally watched it with my parents in mid-August, and both had a blast. The fast-paced and hilarious scenes gave the theater a new, exciting feel. The banter between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman went back and forth from in character to real life them joking around; it was the collaboration of the year. All the cameos and references were perfectly placed, so they didn’t hinder any other plots or bombard the audience with cringy moments. The entire theater was filled with people laughing out loud and cheering. I hadn’t seen anything like that since Spiderman: No Way Home, when Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield came on screen. In conclusion, Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the funniest movies released in a long time.
