When my family and I moved here, we had heard there were many places where we could find food from our country, Venezuela. Many of our family members had gone to Pastel Pizza, so we decided to try it.
When you enter Pasta Pizza, you immediately notice the bright orange colors that give you a warm welcome. The walls have many references to places and things from Venezuela, and many posters- including some things on the menu. The TV is playing music videos, and there is also Latin American music on the speakers.
When you head up to the counter, you will be greeted kindly by one of their friendly employees. Things on the menu include many different Pastelitos with different fillings, including the Pastel Pizza, which is filled with pizza ingredients, they have tequeños, mandocas; Venezuelan empanadas. The potato and cheese pastelito is bread filled with potato and cheese, which as soon as you take a bite, it melts in your mouth. Their star item is the Especial Pastel Pizza. It is a pastelito with cheese, pizza sauce, pepperoni and ham. These ingredients together create a flavor boom that you can’t resist taking another bite. You can pair it with a Frescolita, a Venezuelan soda. It is fizzy and bubbly, and is the perfect pairing to elevate the experience.
In the restaurant, there is a kids’ playing area which resembles their original roots as a food truck. The founder of the restaurant is Juan Rosales, a Venezuelan immigrant who moved here in 2016, and with his wife. They decided to bring their food and culture with them to Katy, TX. They started in 2018 with a food truck and had great success. Later, they opened another food truck in Spring, TX, and then their first restaurant in Katy. About two years ago they opened their second restaurant in Spring, TX.
Pastel Pizza is a great, casual place you could take your friends, family, and kids.
