Q: How has preparation this week looked compared to a regular-season game?
Daulton: “It has definitely been on another level of us being locked in and focused on our jobs. Playoff games like these it’s important to have that extra motivation to get the job done.”
Q: As quarterback, how do you lead the team during high-pressure weeks like this one?
Q: What do you think will be the biggest key to winning this game?
Daulton: “I think my job as a leader of the team is to set an example for my teammates, like working hard in practice and being vocal about the importance of this game. I think the biggest key to winning this game is just who truly wants it more, with Thanksgiving break coming up, a lot of people just want that time off, but it’s important for us to not get lazy and strive for the opportunity to practice and play over the break.”
Q: How has this team grown since Week 1, and how does that show up in the playoffs?
Q: What’s one moment this season that really showed the team’s character?
Daulton: “This team has grown tremendously since week 1. All cylinders have started to click on offense, the o line has played amazing, the receivers have been getting open, and I think there will be a lot of explosive plays in this upcoming game. During our week 2 game against Deer Park, we battled a lot of adversity, we came out slow on offense and had some turnovers, but we stayed together and got the job done.”
Q: If your team could be described in one word this season, what would it be and why?
Daulton: “Adaptable. We have handled a lot of adversity with injuries, sickness, etc. I think we have done a great job handling it and sticking together through it.”
Q: As your high school career nears its end, what stands out as your favorite memory?
Daulton: “My favorite memory has to be the team dinners during the playoffs. I made some great memories during those.”
Q: What does this playoff run mean to you personally?
Daulton: “It means a lot. I want to leave a legacy as a Highlander and show that I’m a winner by going deep into the playoffs and winning a state championship.”
Q: What goes through your mind knowing each game could be your last as a senior?
Daulton: “It’s a little emotional. I think about all the memories I’ve made with my teammates over the past 4-6 years and I think about how I may never be able to play on a team with the guys I grew up with.”
Q: What do you want people to remember about this year’s team when the season is over?
Daulton: “I want people to remember our bond as a team. We have a lot of chemistry as a team, we are all best friends and I think that will carry us far in the playoffs.”
