Behind the scenes of The Woodlands High School, there are many dedicated employees who make everything run smoothly. Mrs. Sears is one of those employees. Her job is not only busy, but also important, from dealing with after-school testing, to textbooks, and to working with students; her passion for education and love for working with students makes everything she does positive, organized, and from the heart. In this interview, she talks more about what she does, what some of her favorite memories are, and what success is all about.
What does your job consist of?
“My job consists of a variety of responsibilities. The biggest task for which I am responsible for is the after-school testing. I am also in charge of everything regarding textbooks, academic Letterman, and smart tags.”
Why did you choose this job?
“I used to volunteer frequently at my daughter’s school, and I’ve always had a heart for working in education. So, when my girls got older, I then thought it was time to go back to work, and I loved everything about the idea of coming to The Woodlands High School.”
How long have you been in this job and how long have you been at the school?
“This is my third year in this job position and at the Woodlands High School.”
What’s your favorite part of your job?
“The kids are my favorite part of the job, because I get to connect with them, and they truly bring me so much joy.”
What is your favorite memory?
“Last Easter my bookies (students who come and visit her or have her as an office aide teacher) and I had an Easter egg hunt all over my room with candy during advisory.”
What do you do in your free time?
“In my free time, I am trying to get certified to teach history, so I spend my extra time studying for my certification.”
What is your favorite snack?
“My favorite snack is popcorn and hot tamales!”
What is your favorite holiday?
“My favorite holiday is Christmas because I love the weather and the holiday cheer and being at home with my friends and family!”
What does success look like in this job?
“Success looks like helping students become the best version of themselves!”
What is the biggest challenge you faced in this job?
“The biggest challenge I’ve faced is when miscommunication and lack of communication causes problems.”
What does a typical day of your job look like?
“No two days are the same, my days are just filled with a variety of activities.”
Though it is easy to overlook the unseen workers of The Woodlands High School, it’s important to remember that for every teacher, there is a staff member working equally as hard.
