For many students across the country, the most stressful time has arrived: Advanced Placement exams.
According to The Princeton Review, it is recommended to start studying for the AP exams two to three months in advance. However, many students do not do this and end up cramming instead. Thankfully, there are many resources available across the internet to help with this dilemma.
- College Board-AP Classroom
College Board’s AP Classroom is the official platform connected to AP courses. It includes practice questions, progress checks, and videos created by AP teachers. Because it is directly aligned with the actual exams, it gives students a more accurate idea of what to expect. This makes it one of the most reliable tools for reviewing any AP subject, especially when focusing on exam format and question types.
- Quizlet
Quizlet is a digital study tool that many students already use, especially when it comes to memorization. It includes features like flashcards, practice tests, and matching games. Students can either make their own sets or search for ones that have already been created. This makes it a convenient option for quick review, especially in subjects that rely heavily on vocabulary and key terms, such as AP Psychology, AP Biology, and AP Human Geography.
- YouTube review channels
YouTube has become a go-to resource for last-minute studying, offering quick and easy explanations of major topics. Channels such as Heimler’s History and CrashCourse break down content into shorter videos that focus on key ideas, timelines, and test strategies. These videos are especially helpful for review in history and government courses, though there are channels available for a wide range of AP subjects.
- Khan Academy
Khan Academy is a free online resource that offers full lessons, practice questions, and instructional videos. As a nonprofit organization, it focuses on making education accessible, and some of its content is aligned with AP standards. The platform allows students to work at their own pace while tracking their progress. It is most useful for math and science courses, including AP Calculus, AP Statistics, and AP Chemistry.
- Fiveable
Fiveable is designed specifically for AP students and focuses on exam preparation. It offers live review sessions, study guides, and practice questions, especially closer to exam dates. The platform also includes community features where students can ask questions and review together. Fiveable is helpful for a variety of subjects, particularly courses with writing components like AP English and AP History.
- Knowt
Knowt is a newer study platform that combines note-taking with flashcards and quizzes. Students can upload their notes and turn them into study materials automatically, which can save time when cramming. It also uses spaced repetition to help with memory. Knowt works well for subjects that require consistent review, such as AP Environmental Science and AP Psychology.
