Free breakfast, lunch for all CISD students

CISD gets Federal grant thru Dec. 2020

Conroe Independent School District received a waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which provides funding to give free breakfast and lunch to all CISD students, in person and virtual. Starting October 1st through the end of December, CISD will be serving free breakfast and lunch for all students ages 18 and below.

The free breakfast and lunch will be available for both in-person and virtual students. Virtual students can pick up curbside meals at all district junior high schools, and meals for their younger siblings, who are not currently enrolled in a CISD school, will be available as well.

Robyn Hughes,CISD’s Administrative Director of Child Nutrition, presented the idea that free lunches for all students is beneficial for their families because it will “give them extra money” to help them during the pandemic.

Hughes also explained that the grant will be helpful for those families who make above the required income to qualify for free and reduced lunches.

The CISD Child Nutrition has not received information about extending the waiver past December, for the second semester, but for now the waiver will be in effect starting October 1st, 2020 and ending December 31st, 2020.
