The Woodlands High School JROTC program launched their first fundraiser with Operation Pets Alive this November. Donations will be accepted until tomorrow.
Students can drop off wet pet food to TWHS main lobby or the JROTC classroom anytime from 7:00 a.m. to 2:35 p.m from November 1- 20. Preferred types of food that are in need are: Purina One Canned Puppy Food and Fancy Feast Adult and Kitten Food.
This is the first time they have partnered with Operation Pets Alive. They chose the organization after searching up shelters who were in need of support.
“JROTC has three core values: integrity, first; service before self; excellence in all we do, meaning we strive to serve our community in every way possible before serving ourselves. There’s always a way for more people to be involved and help our community,” Kamerin Woods, a flight commander, said.
Along with helping animals, this fundraiser also helps JROTC meet their goals they have set up for ‘Unit Goals’. Unit goals are goals students are required to set after an inspection from an Air Force representative from headquarters.
“Meeting Unit Goals [for JROTC] are important, but doing something like this is also important. It is not just about us, it is about the animals that need help” freshman Liviya Sepulvado said.
Making an impact in the community is a core value instilled in the group mentality.
“Donating to Operation Pets Alive not only helps the many dogs and cats who don’t have access to basic necessities in our area, but it also drastically increases our unit’s progress toward our unit goal for 2026 regarding donation drives and charitable partnerships,” student Alexa Kemano said.
All students are encouraged to participate, no matter how big or small the donation. The more donations the school gathers, the more animals in our community get the support they need.
