With tryouts in December of 2025, The Woodlands High School Boys Soccer Team has their teams set for the upcoming season. After three lengthy days of hard work and effort, the boys get placed on a team, Freshman, JV, or Varsity. Pre-season games begin right after team selections.
The teams are led by Head Coach, Jason Fanning and Assistant Coach, Christopher Gunzelman. The JV team had a coach change mid-year. The prior coach, Coach Fredrickson, retired mid-year, and Coach John Hayes has filled the spot for the remainder of the year.
To start off the new calendar year, all three teams played in the Kilt Cup held at Woodforest Bank Stadium and TWHS, January 1-3. Varsity started off the first day strong, competing against A&M Consolidated, with an end score of 3-0. Early in the game, Nico Suarez took a penalty kick and scored. The last two goals were scored by Rafa Zanetti and Jose Rueda.
Day two of the Kilt Cup tournament was no different from the first. On the last day, competing against Lamar High School, The Woodlands Soccer Team scored three goals leaving the team undefeated.
After the Kilt Cup tournament, the varsity boys had a quick turn around. They had two days of practice before they left for The Allen Showcase in Allen, Texas, near Frisco. Traveling in a regular school bus, they made the 3 ½ hour drive to Allen Texas.
Arriving on Thursday afternoon, the varsity team went to the fields immediately. The first game they played was against Wakeland High School, unfortunately ending in a loss, with a score, 1-2. On the second day The Woodlands High School rivaled against Walnut Grove. With their second loss, the end score was 3-0. Finally, on Saturday morning they challenged Flower Mound High School, and won 3-0.
“I’m extremely excited for the 2026 season and am looking forward to seeing how far our team goes,” Captain Nico Suarez said.
The Woodlands High School Boys Soccer Team ended their preseason with a record of 4-2. Back in the Woodlands, the boys will get ready for their first district game against Grand Oaks on January 13, at TWHS field.
