A team member fishes at Lake Conroe during a tournament last year.

The TWHS Bass Fishing team will sponsor an Angler workshop tomorrow in Creekside at Lake Paloma from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

“People are going to learn basics, and how to prepare for the first tournament,” fishing team sponsor Henry Burn said.

All interested members are invited to attend, as well as any returning members who would like a fishing instruction refresher, although it’s optional for returning members.

There will be stations for angler to rotate through in small, socially distanced groups. Board volunteers and team captains will cover casting techniques, including pitching, flipping and target casting, knot tying, choosing the right bait for different conditions, and a gear check to review rod/reel combos, line and lure selection and tackle box. Anglers should bring the gear they plan to use for tournaments, along with water, sunscreen and a chair for parents if desired. The team does not supply fishing equipment.

“It’s a new beginning for some of our anglers and we’re excited for where the program is going,” Burns said.

The workshop will include a walk through of what to expect on an inshore tournament day, including short discussions on rules, safety, fish care, the role of the judge, and resources for learning about fishing.

Because of Covid, we are moving the event to a Saturday in order to give parents a chance to ask questions.

Parking is available at the Rob Fleming Aquatic center. The team will have a tent near Creekside FOrest Drive.
